Trustees ensure employee pay throughout COVID-19 closure

March 20, 2020

Crandall ISD Trustees Thursday night voted unanimously to adopt a resolution allowing the district to pay all hourly district employees, including paraprofessional and auxiliary support personnel, throughout the COVID-19 closure.

The district announced Tuesday it will remain closed through April 3 to minimize risk of COVID-19 to students, staff, families and the community. Leaders will evaluate the tentative April 6 reopening throughout the closure.

“Each employee in this school district, regardless of professional classification, helps shape the lives of our students every day,” said CISD Board President Rick Harrell. “Our support employees do not have the assurance of a contract and this resolution allows our board to ensure their financial stability in uncertain times.”

Modified work schedules and expectations during the closure will be shared with staff by principals and supervisors. All adjustments are being made under health and safety suggestions of the CDC.

During the extended closure, all district facilities are closed to the public.

The board also heard a report on the at-home learning plan put together for parents to assist with student instruction during the closure. Beginning March 25, families will begin using the district’s newly created instructional resource center, named CISD HOMEroom. Teachers will reach out to their families and students Monday, March 23, to answer questions and explain expectations.

March 23-24 will also be used to prepare CISD teachers for the distance learning model. Instructional materials were sent home with students the Friday before spring break and should be used as resources Monday and Tuesday while teachers finalize curriculum plans.
